My research focuses on the governance and rights challenges presented by EU responses to disinformation.

From the Brexit referendum onwards, allegations of disinformation, sometimes coupled with foreign interference, have been levelled by politicians, media, and the public. The EU has entered this space with a sense of urgency, setting out a broad definition of disinformation which is operationalized through a wide range of legislation targeting platforms.

My research critically evaluates the term 'disinformation' in this context, particularly the processes which define, identify, and suppress it.

How are expression, privacy, and access to remedies impacted? How has the EU re-shaped institutional power over the boundaries of harmful content and behaviour? And how should these processes -- still in their early days -- be reformed?
